Designing for a new generation of young professionals, Milan Sipek and his Shanghai design team create an entrance facade that stands out in color and design.
Milan Sipek, founder of the architectural design company Sipek Design, was tasked by the Powerlong Group development company in China to create an entrance facade concept for a new chain of hotels. The hotel chain, Artels+, was aimed at the younger professional clientele and was set to be mid-range art hotels. The client's brief was to create an iconic and recognizable entrance that matched the style of their logo design.
During his years in Shanghai, Milan Sipek had already completed numerous projects for the Powerlong Group, a leading commercial property developer in China specializing in the development and operation of high-quality, large-scale, multi-functional commercial complexes. The design for the entrance facade of Artels+ went through several iterations with Milan and his team working on it and the CEO of the company ultimately making the final decision on which variation to pursue.
The final design was a colorful canopy-type overhang that closely resembled the hotel logo in color and design. The facade had a pattern of perforations that illuminated at night, creating a visible and elegant lighting effect. During the day, the facade stood out because of its bright colors and its design played with perspective, giving those standing in front of it the optical illusion that it was larger and protruded further than it actually did. The facade was designed to be implemented in multiple locations across China as the hotel chain expands. Currently, it has opened branches in cities such as Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Xinxiang.
